This mod is not known to work with the latest version of Kerbal Space Program. Proceed with caution.
Display the shortest distance from the bottom edge of your vessel to the ground on the in-game altimeter display.
Changes to your vessel are accounted for, such as extending landing legs, and the lowest point on your vessel is used regardless of it's actual location, not the center of the vessel.
Note the distance shown is not from the center of your vessel as is default in KSP and that objects such as KSP complex buildings or other vessels are detected by this mod.
Caution: This mod only affects the altimeter display at the top of the screen, it does not change the altitude at which equipment operates. So if a parachute is set to open at 500m ASL, the parachute will still open at 500M ASL, not when this mod causes the altimeter on the screen to display 500m.
This mod only engages when the orbit speed indicator is in Surface mode. When the speed indicator is showing Orbit, the altitude above sea level will be displayed. Note that this is not quite the same as default KSP as when displaying the height above sea level, the bottom of the vessel will still be used.
If you wish to override this, you can change between four modes:
No visible text (Default): Altimeter displays AGL when speed is in Surface mode, ASL when in Orbit mode.
Green visible text (ASL/AGL): Altimeter displays AGL when speed is in Surface mode, ASL when in Orbit mode. Green ASL/AGL text shows you which mode you are in.
Red visible text (ASL/AGL): Altimeter mode is locked and will alwasy display the mode shown regardless of what the speed display mode is in.
Click inside the red box in the screenshot to change mode, note it is only the left side of the altimeter.
Notes:
1) To make it clear when touchdown happens but you can't tell because of the lighting, a displayed altitude of 0meter means a part of your vessel is touching the ground (or water if over the ocean). A displayed altitude of 1meter or higher means no part of your vessel is touching the ground.
2) Any mod that extends parts, such as the winches in KAS, are detected by this mod. For example, if you are lowering a KAS winch, this mod will report the altitude from the bottom of the winch head being lowered as that is the lowest part of the vessel. This is working as designed and the player needs to be aware of it happening when using such equipment.
3) The raycast checks the current vessel to determine if the part hit is valid or not. Vessels connected by some method, such as a fueling hose, may be considered one vessel by this mod and could cause unexpected values to be displayed.
